Lines from an observation post
This was written in the same Write Here, Write Now session as Quomodocumque (second one down). The prompt was to use that subject matter in the form of a Terzanelle. I quite like it but I'm not sure it stands on its own. What do you think?
Lines from an observation post
Death comes slowly on the heels of dogs
He idly wondered what she was like
A quiet announcement, a voice from the bogs
Memories from childhood, a gun and a bike
A father, a mother, half remembered
He idly wondered what she was like
Now it was dark, cold, November
Too weary, too old, too afraid to inquire
A father, a mother, half remembered
He settled, sighted, lines of fire
This was his life, sordid, sweaty, violent despair
Too weary, too old, too afraid to inquire
In the end nobody wins, it’s all fair
Enemies everywhere, time to take aim
This was his life, sordid, sweaty, violent despair
It didn’t bloody matter, it was all a game
Death comes slowly on the heels of dogs
Enemies everywhere, time to take aim
A quiet announcement, a voice from the bogs
